"Spanked: Red-Cheeked Erotica"

Welcome to the third stop on the “Spanked: Red-Cheeked Erotica” virtual book tour. For those of you who are visiting my blog for the first time, thank you for stopping by, and I hope that you enjoy your stay enough to visit again in the future.
“Spanked: Red-Cheeked Erotica” is an anthology of short spanking stories compiled and edited by Rachel Kramer Bussel. Each piece celebrates that wonderfully kinky pastime that we enjoy so much. The very first story, “Spanking You” by Rick Roberts, takes the unlikely point of view of second person, as if he were reaching out to his female readers and describing their innermost desires. “Betty Crocker Gone Bad,” by Alison Tyler (of Trollop With a Laptop), will renew your faith in kitchen-based pervertables, and have you taking a second look in your pantry for your next sexual rendezvous. “Daddy’s Girl,” by Teresa Noelle Roberts, blurs the boundaries between safe fantasies and exciting realities, between play and foreplay.

There is something for everyone in this anthology, whether your interests slide towards punishment and discipline, or sensuality, or eroticism, or just plain playfulness. There are stories about men spanking women, about women spanking men, or even women spanking women. (Sorry, but there’s no men spanking men that I’ve seen, though there is a hint of some homoeroticism in at least one of the stories.) Also, just about every story contains some oblique reference that will likely spark some small amount of realization in the average spanko’s mind, ranging from old spanking magazines and novels, to television shows that have been known to throw in a spanking reference from time to time.

The following is an excerpt from Rachel’s own story, “The Depths of Despair,” shortly after the main character, Denise, makes a special spanking request.

He grabs me by the scruff of my neck, and I whimper, just like I have before, but there's something different in his eyes. They're feral, wild with a kind of desire I've never seen before, and that sight unleashes a wave of want inside me. My entire body goes tight, then limp. "Be careful what you wish for, Dee," he says. "Very, very careful." When I make a move to open my mouth, he shuts my lips, pressing them between his thumb and forefinger.

The resulting session pushes Denise to her limits, but her request is ultimately granted, though not quite in the manner that she anticipated. Her spanker is delightfully sinister and sadistic in his methods, and I may even take a pointer or two from him in the future. There is certainly something about playing with a bottom’s mind when you have them at your mercy.

The above excerpt impressed me partially because it creates a very vivid image without being incredibly wordy. This is the inspiration behind the contest that I’d like to run. The result, then, is a drabble contest. To clarify, a “drabble” is a short passage of exactly (or at least close to) a hundred words, typically used as a writing exercise to teach brevity. The theme for these passages will be “setting the scene.” Describe a scene in which someone is about to be spanked. It could be the moment before the first swat, or the ritual prior to discipline, or even being caught red-handed for a spankable offense.

Entries will be judged primarily for imagery and how easily the scene is visualized, but punctuation, spelling and grammar will count, too. The closeness to the desired number of words will also factor into judging. Entries will be accepted until midnight on Wednesday, then the contest will be closed for judging.
